That's why I attend global conferences to present my surgical approaches and to learn from the other doctors. There is no other way to pursue perfection but to play to my strength and strive for excellence.

Founding the Charm Clinic and leading the trend

After Dr. Kao received his full training as a plastic surgeon at Taipei Veteran Hospital, he began his practice and served the people at the Hsinchu branch of Veteran Hospital for 3 and a half years. In September 2002, he founded Charm Clinic in Tian-Mu, Taipei. The clinic was small but elegant. With heartwarming services and refined surgical techniques, the clinic’s operation thrives day by day.

For the sake of the patients, Dr. Kao moved Charm clinic to a more convenient location at 3F, No. 6, Zhong Xiao West Road, Taipei city in October 2009. After Dr. Ming-Ji Hsieh joined the team in 2012, Charm made its official expansion as a joint plastic surgery clinic led by Dr. Kao. This is the very first aesthetic medicine team in Taiwan comprised of professional doctors incorporating jaw surgery, dental aesthetics, and aesthetic medicine, with the goal of providing in-depth information and professional treatments for those who strive for beauty.

Introducing leading-edge endoscopic techniques to the field of plastic surgery

The endoscopic techniques, which can be used to perform checks as well as surgeries, were not invented until 1970. Since then, this approach has been widely used in gynecological, general, thoracic procedures and even for orthopedics. In 1990, it was the first time endoscopic techniques were adopted in plastic surgery, mainly used for breast augmentation and skin lifting. Since the clinic opened, Dr. Kao has been an ardent advocate for endoscopic breast augmentation rather than the blinded instrumental method, which was common back then. He also provided his patients with scar free endoscopic brow-lifting services that have won the support of a great number of clients.

From rhinoplasty to sublime nose-shaping art

In 2004, Director Kao found that most L-shaped nose implants looked unnatural upon his observation. That’s why he decided to visit the Korean rhinoplasty expert-- Dr. Dong-Hak Jung in Seoul and learned the open approach from him. After he came back to Taiwan, he started promoting 2-step rhinoplasty-- using artificial materials for nasal ridge support and then carving autologous cartilage for nose tip. This approach led to the revolution of rhinoplasty. 4 years later, Dr. Kao took one step further and started performing“3-step closed rhinoplasty “by using closed incision procedures, so there will be no scars left on the nose. In 2009, aesthetic rhinoplasty at Charm clinic became the only one of its kind. As a trend-setter, the clinic has been widely recognized and acknowledged by the public. Dr. Kao has a keen sense on future trends and his perspectives on surgical skills are also ahead of his time. He is able to refine his skills in every way because he is humble and modest. In 2014, he introduced the concept of total autologous rhinoplasty to the market. For the pursuit of perfection, the materials used for surgery are solely from the patients, such as rib cartilages, nasal septal cartilages, ear cartilages, dermis, body fat, and fascia. To this day, time has not only proved that Dr. Kao is right about this concept, but also demonstrated that his skills are leading edge in the world. Staying on top of the trend—the closed approach of autologous fat grafting mitigates infection and increases survival rates

Before autologous fat grafting was advertised, Dr. Kao had foreseen that it would be the mainstream for plastic surgery going forward. He then adopted the closed approach of autologous fat grafting, which not only mitigates the chances of infection, but also enhances the survival rates of fat. He excels at such approach flexibly for facial aging treatment and breast augmentation. In addition, he also uses this approach to fix uneven breasts, change breast sizes, and provide saggy breast remedies for mothers. This has certainly benefited many female patients.

Repositioning the eye bags instead of fat removal

Many Asians are troubled by their single eyelids with puffy eyes and annoyed by the under-eye bags that stand out the most. To address this problem, Dr. Kao introduced eye bag repositioning with fascia correction to replace the traditional approach of fat removal. At the time of fascia repair, the tear trough problem can also be treated. Hence this surgical approach soon becomes popular and gets a lot of inquiries.
