I was born in Yilan, Taiwan and studied in the National Yilan Senior High School. I was determined to become a doctor since I was still a kid, and I was admitted to the Faculty of Medicine of National Yang-Ming University in 1975, during which span I became interested in surgeries. After graduating from the university, I went to the Taipei Veterans General Hospital to complete the surgical and plastic surgery trainings. I obtained the qualification as a plastic surgeon accredited by the Department of Health after completing the abovementioned trainings. Afterward, I worked as an attending physician of Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Taipei Veterans General Hospital for 21 years, as well as serving as the head of its director of Burn Unit for 10 years.

During that span, I was honored to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Chiu-Hua Lin, a very well respected plastic surgeon in Taiwan, to study the periocular cosmetic surgery as well as nose and facelift surgeries for oriental people. To enrich my knowledge and skills of cosmetic surgery, I went to the United States and South Korea to seek advice from top international aesthetics medicine and laser surgeons. For example, I went to UCSF for 1 year from 1998 to 1999 to study breast surgery from Dr. Mathes and craniofacial surgery from Dr. Hoffman. I also went to the Davies Medical Center to study facial nerve surgery from Dr. Buncke, open tiplasty and craniofacial feminization surgery from Dr. Ousterhout, and the “SMAS-Platysma facelift” from Dr. Owsley. They were all world-class plastic surgeons, and those learning experiences laid a solid foundation for my future studies of cosmetic surgery.

In 1991, Taipei Veterans General Hospital introduced the first ruby laser instrument in Taiwan, and then there came the CO₂ laser technology. I also went to South Korea and Santa Barbara, US to study the laser surgery during that span. Continuously studying the clinical research of relative field thereafter, I can be regarded as one of the pioneers of laser surgery in Taiwan. I have accumulated more than 20 years of clinical, research and teaching experiences for medical center, with great understanding in various types of plastic surgeries. Furthermore, I gave academic speeches on various aesthetic and laser surgeries in many occasions at the invitation of domestic and international plastic surgery associations. Back when I was still an attending physician, I already had a strong interest in photography and fine arts, having deep understanding in observing, analyzing and mastering of the perfect face as well as the contour, curve and proportion of bodies, and that was the background for me to choose plastic surgery as my lifetime career. In recent years, I have been investing lots of energy in the facelift and periocular cosmetic surgery for oriental people. I always believe that the ideal facial cosmetic surgery should make one looks younger rather than making him/her a different person. It should help us obtain beauty that is harmonious and with character but not a copy of someone else.
